REVIEW: ISSC M-22 C02 Blowback Air Pistol

This is a true-to-life replica! Just like the original, the fully licensed ISSC M-22 C02 blowback Air Pistol has the identical weight and size, ergonomic frame, molded finger grooves, a powerful blowback system, and a realistic slide response, making this air reproduction a high level of authenticity to the original model.

The ISSC M-22 uses a single-stack drop-free magazine for both CO2 and BB ammo. The release button is located where the firing hand can access it.

The ISSC M-22 C02 blowback Air Pistol has a comfortable, textured pistol grip with molded finger grooves. The safety for this air pistol is a special key that allows you to lock the gun trigger and render it inoperable.

The sights are combat type. The rear sight notch adjusts sideways for windage, only. The front sight is fixed. Both front and rear have white inserts for rapid acquisition. The front is a square set into the post while the rear has white lines outlining the notch. The realism of the ISSC M-22 Air Pistol will appeal to purveyors of firearms and backyard plinkers alike.

5The best air pistol I own (out of 23)!
By Mandi
Let me begin by saying that I love this gun. It's built like a tank, with a solid metal slide, high grade polymer frame, and the heft and feel is realistic and superb. Without close inspection, people think it's a Glock 9mm. I own 23 different BB, pellet, and airsoft handguns and this one is my hands-down favorite.

It arrived in a well-designed cardboard box (no cheap plastic clamshell packaging here), padded with bubble wrap inside the box, with an easy to read and understand manual and a multi-tool for operating the safety (which is odd, but not a deal-breaker for me) and loosening and tightening the Co2 cartidges.

The in-hand feel is great. It's very similar to a Glock 17. The trigger pull is a bit long, but is steady and has a predictable break. Being a gas blowback pistol, it does have some recoil, which is similar to a .22 caliber. It's got a good sound to it, but it's not overly loud. Accuracy is good at around 15 yards. Beyond that, I wouldn't know yet. I've put three 18-round magazines worth of BBs through it so far with no notable drop in muzzle velocity, which is good for a gas blowback pistol. I also love how the slide catch locks the slide back (and yes, the slide goes all the way back) when the magazine is empty, so there's no guessing whether you're out of ammo or not.

If you're looking for a BB gun that really feels and handles like an actual firearm, this is the best one I've ever found. I have other gas blowback pistols made by Crosman, Gamo, Umarex, etc. This one is the one I'll be using to keep my target shooting skills sharp with. Actually, I think I'm going to buy a second one...

History behind the firearm that inspired the ISSC M-22 C02 Air Pistol

ISSC is an Austrian firearms manufacturer focusing on .22LR caliber rifles and pistols for export. ISSC started producing firearms in 2009 in Ried, Austria with the ISSC M22 .22lr pistol. The design and engineering of the weapons is done at its ESC subsidiary in Ulm, Germany (Engineering, Sourcing and Consulting).

The firearm is designed specifically to be a range/plinking gun, a trainer for the Glock style of European polymer handguns. It has the look and feel of a Glock, and it's designed to let you train with inexpensive .22LR ammo. This is NOT a self-defense gun (more on this later), rather it is simply a trainer.

Detail and Design

The ISSC M-22 certainly looks like a Glock and it sits in your hand nearly identically to a Glock 19. There are differences in the operation of the external hammer, hammer-block safety but they don't really change the feel of the gun. The gun has an interesting legal history, but that's beyond the scope of this review. The gun is so close in external dimensions that it fits comfortably and locks into Glock 19 holsters, making it a good choice for draw practice. It's a poor choice, however, for draw and fire, as I will explain later.

The gun is a simple blow back design, so functionally it's quite different than a Glock, but the blow back somewhat even simulates the feel of a Glock. It has a single-stack 10 round magazine, and the gun only comes with one.The gun features an external hammer that must be cocked before the gun can be fired, making this pistol a true single-action gun. The main safety on the gun is the hammer block, which also serves as a de-cocker, so when you activate the safety, the gun is de-cocked and the hammer falls.
